SCORES of persons were recently arrested by Police operatives attached to Ughelli Area Command at a popular hotel premises (name withheld) located at Agbarha-Otor community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned, the Hotel owner (name withheld)had engaged the security agents with the intention to prevent an arrest in a drug laden environment close to the hotel.
A security source from the Delta state Police Command, Asaba, who confirmed the mass arrest said, “We got an intelligent report on the alleged sales of hard drugs in the area and the Area Commander details his men to scene.
“On getting to the scene, some persons were arrested with bags of hard drugs while others escaped.
“After the arrest, the hotel owner sent his boys to attack the police and we have to run for our safety before we call for back up and on the process about 50 persons were arrested on Sunday night and they are currently being detained awaiting further investigations while the owner of the hotel escaped.
“Some of these boys after taking hard drugs, will engage in kidnapping, robbery and other criminal activities and the police will continue to ensure that sales of hard drugs in the area and state is stopped no matter who is involved.” The security source disclosed.
It would be recalled that the Delta State Governor had earlier raised an alarm on the growing incident of hard drugs abuse in the country when the former military governor of Lagos state, Gen. Buba Marwa, (Rted) visited him at government House Asaba.
